AVATAR RESTAURANT

Previously home to the Nerdy Café, this prominent town centre building was completely transformed into Avatar, a contemporary restaurant celebrating the rich flavours and culture of Nepal and India. The brief was to create an interior that felt elegant, immersive and memorable, reflecting the quality of the food while providing a refined dining experience from the moment guests arrive.

Inspired by the architecture and landscapes of the Indian subcontinent, the design centres around a series of bespoke arched booth seating areas that create intimacy and rhythm throughout the restaurant. The arch motif echoes traditional architectural forms found across India and Nepal, while feature mural panels depicting scenes from Kerala, layered planting, rich timber finishes and warm brass lighting introduce depth, texture and atmosphere. Carefully considered lighting, including decorative wall lights within each booth, creates a soft ambient glow that transforms the space from day to evening.

The experience continues into the washrooms, where bold feature wallpapers, handcrafted tiling and brushed brass detailing elevate every corner of the restaurant. Every element was designed to create a cohesive and luxurious environment, transforming a tired, dated interior into one of Shrewsbury's most distinctive hospitality destinations.
